Creation of the Haselhoff Foundation

The Haselhoff Family Foundation was established on May 31, 1989 in Wedde (East Groningen), on whose cemetery near the church (Nederlands Hervormd) lies among other graves our progenitor Derck Haselhoff (died in 1650) and his wife Magdalena Saxenhausen. Numerous investigations show that only those with the names Haselhof(f), Hazelhof(f), Has(z)elof, Hazelhoff Roelfzema, Haselhoff Lich or Haselhoff Lich Kasteleijn descend from this Derck, the burgrave of the dominion of Westerwolde. The castle, the Huis te Wedde, played an important role in the lives of Derck and his descendants.

The aim of the Haselhoff Family Foundation is to make the Haselhoff family known, not only in the Netherlands but also abroad (e.g. Germany, Belgium, America, Argentina), as well as to collect and maintain a wide variety of things connected with the Haselhoff family. One of the first results was the publication in 1992 of the 560-page Kroniek van het slachte Haselhoff (Chronicle of the Haselhoff family), a description of eight centuries of family history against the backdrop of Westerwolde (province of Groningen). This also included a unique and complete family tree of all subsequent generations after Derck. The foundation is managed by a committed board of trustees and has a few hundred patrons. There is active entertainment with these patrons: on the one hand with the HaselhoffBulletin, which is published every year in May/June and in December, and on the other hand with family days. There are also a number of commissions that deal with, among other things, describing, examining and managing old graves. But also with biographies, organizing the family day that takes place every five years or maintaining our website. Everything that can be associated with the Haselhoffs is collected and stored in the family archive: documents, letters, photos, pictures, family Bibles, medals, poetry albums, birth and death notices, newspaper clippings, books and magazines. The foundation also has its own family coat of arms . It is based on Derck Haselhoff's coat of arms and was registered by the Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie (Central Bureau for Genealogy) in The Hague (1990).
